Welcome – Voltahalle Basel
From April 2026 onwards, the historic Voltahalle – once a coal depot of the Basel Industrial Works – will be transformed into a new independent venue for culture, events, and community gatherings. Located in the dynamic and rapidly evolving St. Johann district, the hall sits at the intersection of some of Basel’s most important urban developments: between the Novartis Campus, the new State Archives, Stellwerk, the VoltaOst residential complex, Klybeckplus, and the popular Kult bakery at Voltaplatz. Combining raw industrial character with modern infrastructure, excellent accessibility by tram and road (including direct connections from France and Germany), a striking panoramic window frontage, and around 500 square meters of flexible, column-free space, the Voltahalle offers one of the most distinctive event settings in Basel and the surrounding region. Under new management and equipped with state-of-the-art modular stage and event technology, the venue is conceived as an open and versatile platform for a broad range of formats: from neighborhood initiatives and community events to concerts, performances, exhibitions, conferences, trade fairs, and corporate gatherings. The hall is open to organizers and institutions from all sectors.
Tariffs
Cultural fare & regular fare
The Voltahalle differentiates between cultural and regular rental rates (both available upon request). Non-profit organizations, cultural professionals, and non-commercial event organizers benefit from a significantly reduced cultural rate.
Rates are subject to change; individual cases and rental prices, as well as technical, piano, and catering costs, are available upon request and quotation. Half-days, rehearsal days, and setup/teardown days are possible by arrangement.
